1. Role Purpose
The Apprentice Maintenance Technician will support the maintenance team in ensuring plant, machinery, and facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. The role combines on‑the‑job training with formal apprenticeship learning, developing the technical skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to become a competent Maintenance Technician.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks on machinery, equipment, and building services.
- Support fault‑finding and basic repair of mechanical and electrical systems under supervision.
- Carry out routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and basic adjustments of equipment.
- Learn and follow maintenance procedures, drawings, manuals, and technical instructions.
- Accurately record maintenance activities, faults, and parts used within maintenance systems.
- Work safely at all times, following company health & safety policies and safe systems of work.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment correctly and responsibly.
- Assist with breakdown response and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Attend college or training provider sessions and complete all required coursework and assessments.
- Develop professional behaviours including teamwork, communication, and time management.
3. Health, Safety & Environment

- Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
- Promote a safe working environment by directly challenging or reporting unsafe or environmentally damaging practices and hazardous working conditions.
- Be observant at all times and where applicable make suggestions on health, safety and environmental improvements that can or should be made.
- Support environmental sustainability initiatives within the company such as segregating waste and switching off electrical equipment where appropriate and not in use.
4. Quality
- Assures system or product quality by abiding by ADM QMS procedures, work instructions & operating procedures.
- Quality is the concern of every employee & it is every employees duty to inform those responsible for production / quality if a product does not conform.
5. Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours (Developed During Apprenticeship)
- Basic mechanical and/or electrical principles
- Fault‑finding and problem‑solving techniques
- Understanding of health & safety legislation and risk assessments
- Ability to follow instructions and technical documentation
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Willingness to learn and take feedback positively
6. Entry Requirements
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above (or willingness to work towards them)
- Interest in engineering, maintenance, or technical environments
- Basic IT skills
- Right to work in the UK
